Radio 1 Big Weekend – The Social Media Effect of Outdoor Advertising

Posted by | May 26, 2014 | News, Outdoor | No Comments

We’re just back from Europe’s largest free music festival, Radio 1’s Big Weekend, in Glasgow where Brotherhood Media were exclusively handling the on-site outdoor advertising. Acts including Katy Perry, Coldplay, Rita Ora and Kasabian rocked the rain-soaked Scottish crowds, as well as entertaining music fans across the UK via the BBC Three TV highlights and live-streamed coverage on the Radio 1 website.

This year we noticed a huge increase in the number of on-site selfies and group photos being taken in front of our posters for sharing on social media. Even the bands themselves were getting in on the act – we spotted a great shot posted by the Klaxons on their official instagram account, of them posing with some of our adverts for their latest album.

Outdoor advertising at live events provides the perfect opportunity to cater to social media audiences to promote your product even further via online sharing as well as word of mouth. Posters that give good instagram, as well as artwork that is highly visible from a distance (so it can be seen from great selfie places like the top of the ferris wheel or picked up by TV cameras), will help your message to go viral, getting you extra bang for your buck.

Check out a few of the instagram shots posted by music fans at Radio 1’s Big Weekend that we spotted Brotherhood Media posters in, above.
